Big Brothers, Big Sisters is the oldest and most effective non-profit organization in the United States, whose mission is to help the children to achieve the best in their life through one-to-one relationship with mentors, who have a positive impact on youth. It is the largest youth mentoring organization in USA. It emphasizes on one-to-one youth service, developing positive relationship between mentors and young children.
Research has shown that the positive influence of Big Brother Big Sister can make real difference in the life of young children. They guide children of 6 to 18 years of age across the country. Having a Big Brother or a Big Sister gives your child the one-to-one friendship of another caring adult. Together they have fun, talking about their personal lives and develop a special bond. A Big Brother/Sister who knows and understands the unique challenges they face will have a lasting and positive impact in the lives of young children.
These days many children of young age are getting involved in drugs and other criminal cases, subsequently dropping from schools and losing their ways. In such cases, Big Brother Big Sister is of great help in boosting the morale of the child as well as guiding them in realizing their goals in life.
It is not that the children are the only beneficiaries; Big Brother/Sisters also enjoy the little one’s company. While playing video games, reading funny stories or spending time together with the younger ones, the older ones also feels themselves to be kids. The impact is huge- for both. The older ones can do all the things they love to do already, only they would get to share it with little ones and for this, they don’t have to change their lifestyles.
Impact on children-
1. Perform better in school activities get good results
2. Feel themselves confident
3. Lead a happy life with their families
4. Most children don’t take drugs, alcohol
5. Participate in social activities
6. Friendship with Big Brother/Sister makes them more mature and it helps in taking better decisions in life.

I am on my second match with Big Brothers, and both matches have been a great experience. The best advice that I have would be to go in without any expectations.
Since you're in the application process, it may take a while to get matched up. First, you do have to go through a relatively lengthy screening process and interview. Sometimes it may take a while for you to get matched. It took almost a year in both cases for my matches.
Both of my matches were very introverted and shy. It takes a lot of time and patience to get through and build a relationship. But once I got to the point where the communication was two-way, it was a great feeling. I think it was important to have an open line of communication with the parent or guardian as well, as that helped out a lot. Sometimes, it's kind of hard to figure out what kind of activities to do, but the BBBS office always has ideas and suggestions. They do have a few get-togethers, and also had access to tickets for ballgames, etc.
Sometimes it's hard to tell whether you are making a difference, but just being there is all that matters. It's not one specific moment that is important, but rather the collective time spent together.
Good luck with your application.
Well you can expect to get some smartass kid.
Most kidz in that program have no one else to go to, so they r rude and very nasty.
or to get some kid that is just plain werid and tlaks to himself.
“what are you doing”….”ughhh i’ll tell u when u get older”…LOL

i used to have one, and she was fun, took me all kinds of places
That girl at 1:44 is a bitch
Yes and tests for other drugs plus a mental evaluation. They really check into every aspect of your background. They want to make sure these kids are going to be safe with whomever they are with.If you have a drug or weed problem you don't need to be around any kids.Sorry but that is my opinion.
Haha, pretty funny. But Ozzy made it a whole lot better. Good taste in music.
asshole, sorry your other videos are good but this , this video sucks.
I have a son who is eight. Unfortunitly I live in a "hicker-billy"(lol) area and we don't have anything like that. I am starting to take my son to scouts though.
When you volunteer in general, you are given a flexible schedule. You can even choose to contribute an hour or two a week tutoring or mentoring others. Please let them know upfront of your schedule and availability and they might be able to find you a proper assignment.
I really like this post/question. You are asking a conderning question.
Depending on where you live, poverty may be more prominent among Afican Americans. Where I live, we have a BB/BS program. I am black. My husband (who runs the program) is white. We actually see a mixture of both races, as well as Hispanic, here in our town. We see the same amount of black, white, and Hispanic kids volunteering as a BB/BS. The best BS we've had here in quite some time is a Hispanic girl. She is super sweet and the kids love her there.
I think that some of it is where you live.
Hope this helps.
This video was funnier than hell lol wow wouldn’t that be awesome.
You can be from any race and age and background but it is expected (although not strictly required) of you to spend at least 4 hours a month with your "little" in order to make a positive impact in his or her life.
good stuff ahah
I personally think the biggest thing is commitment.
The organization has quite a criteria and guidelines. You are to keep all promises, keep them from harm and give them a stable environment, that is fun to learn in. You will become attached to them, and that is very important…but also get ready for the separation, process when you go to college, get married, move, or get ill and cannot continue. Sometimes they become very attached to you.
The biggest thing they need is a friend, and someone they can rely on. As they grow, you will also. There are so many things you can do, and see together, but the most important is your time, be there, when you say you will, follow through.
Most of these children have had so many disappointments and let downs in their young lives already.
There is a good screening process in place, to protect everyone and that is very good, this is a serious commitment.
Good luck and if you decide to do it, it will be very rewarding for both of you….thank you
